The Hebrew Type Incubator
Research Book
The exhibition and book "Common Ground" summarize the work of the Mifal HaPais Hebrew Type Incubator, which took place throughout 2024 at the Center. As part of the incubator, Shani Avni, Noy Neiman, Ben Nathan, and Studio RAG (Alon Kanchuk and Rami Rashty) developed new Hebrew fonts based on research and multicultural encounters. The exhibition presents sketches, original findings, and research processes gathered throughout the incubator year. The book also serves as a platform for the incubator’s research, describing it in detail alongside new, original articles written by scholars from various disciplines. "Typography exhibitions are quite rare, and new reference books are even rarer," says Tom Cohen, the incubator's curator. "For a year, we accompanied the incubator members on a fascinating journey that included enrichment days, meetings with key figures in local typography, and research trips abroad. The incubator enabled the creation of an experimental-research space, which is rare and vital in the professional landscape, even years after completing design studies."
