Common Ground
SHENKAR DESIGN RESEARCH CENTER
FAU University Galleries - DOROTHY F. SCHMIDT gallery / 2024
Common Ground is a journey through three landscape typologies, all on a scale of natural and human impact. These familiar yet abstract places foster a connection through a common memory and emotion while retaining a sense of mystery, fantasy, and wonder.
Each habitat offers an invitation to explore the idea of human and natural balance through tactile textile works and strive to understand it through textual and visual frames of reference.
Common Ground’s main focus is to showcase the connectivity of land in its most iconic form in Israel, through the juxtaposition of contemporary and historical, artistic and communicative works, as they address each landscape’s myth, characters and materials, to resonate a sense of belonging and wonder.
Common Ground is curated by Shenkar College, an internationally recognized design institution in Israel, and Shenkar Design Research Center, which performs research and manages a unique collection of tens of thousands pieces of local design, representing different design fields, eras, styles, and schools of thought. Common Ground displays selected works from its’ historic collection of Israeli design, as well as works of alumni of the Textile Design Department.
